Personalized reading and dyslexia support for students in Phoenix and online
What is reading and dyslexia support?
At Sophos, we work with students of all ages who have reading challenges or a dyslexia diagnosis. We offer custom support to students in Phoenix and online, from early readers who are building foundational skills to older students struggling with fluency and comprehension.
Reading is not an indication of intelligence, effort, or ability.
It’s a specific skill set we can help your child build and improve!
“Sophos was a life saver for my daughter”
She was struggling with a few classes and overall executive functioning. They really got her on track to be successful in high school and now to move on to her top choice college.
Jessi is amazing, and the overall team made a huge difference in her academic career.
Christine W. Does my child need a reading and dyslexia tutor?
There are some common signs that your child may need help with their reading:
No matter how much they practice, reading remains slow and frustrating
They guess at words and avoid words they don’t know
Spelling is inconsistent and they struggle to use patterns they’ve learned to spell new words
They have poor handwriting
Processing multi-step directions is a challenge
They speak brilliantly but struggle to write
Reading comprehension is strong, but they struggle with decoding or reading fluently
Rhyming words are particularly difficult
Results don’t match their effort
They avoid reading in any context
Support they’re receiving at school isn’t leading to meaningful progress
You know your child best. If you’re uncertain about where to start, we can walk you through different options and help you figure out what your child needs.

-
We start by gathering family concerns, school history, prior evaluations, current instruction, strengths, goals, and details about relevant learning contexts.
-
We create a customized report based on our batter of standardized assessments that can be shared with school, pediatricians, and others as needed. We’ll also sit down with you to discuss the report, its findings, and your insights and opinions.
-
The baseline of your child’s program is established by the assessments and report. Parents play a key role in determining what is best for your child’s reading journey. Together, we’ll select aligned methods and materials, identify the proper intensity, and set appropriate goals instead of applying a generic tutoring process or sequence to all students.
-
Our literacy specialists and tutors use the Wilson Reading System and Lindamood-Bell's Seeing Stars for a structured, evidence-based, multi-sensory approach to phonics, spelling, fluency, and comprehension.
-
As we work with your student, we’ll observe how they respond to instruction and measure their progress so we can refine and improve their plan over time.
